- I don't have any direct experience with HQ mods because I don't believe my monitor would be able to display much of a difference with them and I'm already putting more than enough stress on my system with the game as I have it. But SweetFX has a very loyal following if you can get it to work. You might also consider replacement skins, if you aren't already using those.
NRaas has moved!
Our new site is at http://nraas.net - What video card do you have? @Simasaurus09 can help you with HQ mods
Follow all my stories on my tumblr!- edited October 2016You should be able to run some of the HQ mods. They are usually used for picture taking but can be very taxing on a video card if your playing the game with them. I don't use them but again simasarus does and they have a 980 card so they can fill you in on what you can get away with while playing using an HQ mod

Thanks! I'll be waiting for their reply then ^^0 - I'll give an example:
I want this:
To look like this:0 - edited October 2016To be honest I find my sims looking much better in the game than in CAS. I find the invisible lights (WA) very helpful where it comes to improving their appearance.7
- I think it would help a lot if there was a mod that made their eyelashes look like actual eyelashes and that would make their eyeshadow less pixelated...1
- i use a HQ mod that makes the sims and objects less bright
- @Namaya92 your sim does not look that different from CAS to game. Sims will never look exactly the same from CAS to game. They are shiny in CAS. You can take your sims in CAS while in game and go back and forth until your sim is looking how you want it in game. This takes some tweaking. Especially if you use skins. I find that skins tend to shrink the sim so you have to play with the sliders. I use ea skins with cc hair and contacts. Also lighting is different in every world. Certain back round colors on your walls and lighting can make a difference in how your sim looks in pics. Your sims can wind up looking like rubber in some lighting and then other times look great. I tend to use wall colors and lighting that makes my sims indoors look better. This is without mods.
- @Namaya92
There is a trick for that! This person made lots of eyelash sets (don't forget to download the meshes and sliders!) and an EA eyelash removal mod.My wishlist! Give items if you want!!! (RANDOM ORDER)
Ultimate cc-list
My top 5 - @phoebebebe13 Thanks for the tips! I will play around with it ^^
@GITTE2001 Thanks! I will definitely check those out. Those blurry eyelashes in-game from EA plum me off a lot haha1 - edited October 2016@GITTE2001 Thanks for the lashes, she already looks a lot better now I still wish it could be more detailed though but I guess I'm just a junky when it comes to high quality graphics haha! the skin I use is a 2k one as well e.e0
- @Namaya92 I just remembered this fairly recent thread. http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/896331/omg-the-lighting-is-perfect-new-lighting-mod

Your welcome. Gaia's sims always look amazing. Mind you there is a lot of CC on them. Depends on how much you want to download. You can ask her about other CC she uses . I would do it but I don't have enough hard drive space. I only have a 250 gb ssd with the sims 3, windows and some other stuff. Need to buy a 500 gb ssd and put my game on that - edited October 2016@JoAnne65 Is right the lighting in game makes the difference, dont mean lighting mods but the room you are in etc.For a test go put a ceiling light one square of the build buy grid away directly in front of your sim take a pic then move the light back 2 squares take a pic you will see the first will get the results you desire. This is any ceiling light even base game square ceiling light. One square between the sim and the square the light is above will take perfect screenies even catch the light glimmer in the eyes10
- edited October 2016Sorry here... To make sure light hit both eyes use your tab key and raise or lower and even slight moving left or right with camera move it back a notch etc it will light up both pupils and make clear screenies I always use the base game ceiling light the glass square white one is cheap cost.Called lucid light in buy catalog ceiling light just leave it normal intensity default
Results below using that mentioned above the backdrop/wallpaper is the cheap paint category white wall with border I think it is called. This is a premade vanilla NPC Sim Mallory Weeks

Moved to the left to give a right shadow15 - edited October 2016Here is something you may want to look at. It does work by the way, but you better have a good graphics card. RRenderSimTextureSizes was increased from 1024 to 3328. It is totally HD in game. Works with v 1.69. http://asexualsims.tumblr.com/post/149447038114/avians-graphics-fix-169
(p.s. of course make sure you back up your GraphicsRules.sgr file first )“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to reform (or pause and reflect).”

Anisotropic Texture Filtering
Antialiasing Mode
Antialiasing Setting
Triple Buffering
Vertical Sync
Based on your video card you shouldn't have any issues getting the game to look how you want. However, cc that caters to your style can also enhance the game. And usually having your monitor set to the highest resolution or one that you are comfortable with helps a lot. A few pictures from my game.
Alright, to be honest, those screenshots looked amazing but that was before, I think, experimenting with NVidia settings. These ones below are recent because if I remember correctly, it wasn't until I started playing as the Otokie-Eboh family when changing the settings. The screenshots above is when I discovered the game looks better when I change the resolution to the highest. Yes, before, during and after TS3 I didn't know much about computers. But because I find TS3 to be one of the best games, flaws and all, I have played that I am willing to learn more about computers and how to get the best gaming experience. So I built my first gaming computer just to have a more powerful system than my gaming laptop. And that way it is also cheaper to buy individual parts here and there instead of buying a whole new computer every time.
Comparison in CAS vs LIVE mode. Yeah, some hairs are shiny in CAS but that's not how it looks when in LIVE mode. At least not in my game. And sims pretty much look the same to me except the lighting changes, naturally.
No, I have not used an HQ mod in the past nor now. And my video card is much older...GTX 660 than what's currently available within the GTX series. I also do not photoshop unless I'm working on a project like that ReBoot screenshot. Otherwise, all my screenshots are straight from my game and no I don't use lighting mods. Although I tried one out but I'm fine without it because I really like how the default game looks initially. But I do currently have an HD shadow mod. I am extremely happy and content with what I chose for my first gaming build. Not bad at all.
*I suggest to do your own research concerning NVidia Control Panel settings if you are unfamiliar, though.3 - edited October 2016Great post @Deshong04 . Thanks for this, I'm going to have to take a look at my own settings. Although, I really like how my game looks, there's always room for improvement. Your sims are amazing by the way! I don't us hq or lighting mods either. Not yet anyway. I've only used cc skin, eyes and sometimes hair.
Here's a couple of my faves:
@CravenLestat great tips on lighting. Thanks for posting that, i'm gonna have to give that a try.
@Namaya92 I think your sim is gorgeous! - Sweet FX is simply an overlay that acts like photoshoping or adding filters. I don't use it because I can do so much more with photoshop and there are programs out there free like Gimp that do the same things as photoshop. Also since it's an overlay, it will effect how the UI looks. Doesn't make it unplayable but it will appear bright. This bugs some people so I thought I might mention it.
Something else to mention, again this is just an overlay so that means you need a program to take screenshots. The in-game camera will not capture the overlay. A program like Fraps would work to take screenshots. You need to press the F10 key each to time to hide UI.Formerly known as Simasaurus09

S4 simblr: http://simlogic.tumblr.com/ - @Odonata68 You are welcome and thank you. Your Sims look great. Their style matches their personality well. Playing in a different era is something I haven't done yet but looks so much fun.0
- @Deshong04 Thank you
Well, I wish it was more like a different era. Between the cars driving everywhere and the fact that everyone has a cell phone, totally breaks that illusion!
Although, the male 'elf' I posted above does ride his horse everywhere. I created him but he's not currently the active household. Whenever I check out DV he's riding his horse somewhere. - edited October 2016I use this HQ mod. Choose the version you want and make sure it's for your patch level. No Glow means light won't reflect weirdly off furniture like how countertops sometimes glow. Once downloaded, make a copy of the original GraphicsRules file and store that somewhere. It can be found here: <install path>Electronic ArtsThe Sims 3GameBin Then paste the new GraphicsRules you downloaded. It will ask to overwrite and you will click ok. This texture size in this HQ version is considerably low so I feel comfortable enough to use it with game play.
Higher texture size will put a strain on the game and that's why it's recommended for pictures only. This other HQ mod allows you to turn it off /on and change size with a small program. Guide on how to use here: http://touchmypixels.tumblr.com/post/40141996452/how-to-make-awts-hq-mod-work-for-you
With a HQ mod you're going to want skin and eye content in high textures. I'm not sure where to find HQ eyes but a Google search should pull something up. As for skin, these will work: http://kurasoberina.tumblr.com/tagged/skintonesFormerly known as Simasaurus09
